Self-care in the Busyness

What does self-care look like?

What did it look like for Jesus to do self-care?

Gethsemane (Luke 22:39-46), mountain retreat then walking on water (Matthew 14:22), 40 days in the wilderness (Matt. 4:1, Luke 4,)

Solomon walked in what he believed was self-care. He did all the things that were “stress-relievers” and yet it brought him nothing positive. Ultimately he realized after looking at his life, that all the activity under the sun was “Meaningless… Vanity and vexation” (Ecclesiastes 1:14)

Self-care can be reading a favorite book series, or enjoying a certain movie. It can be playing a sport on weekends, or spending time with a favorite group of people. These can all be great, but we have to be careful that these don’t become an idol, something that we rely on more than God.

How do we make sure our hobbies or activities don’t become a little g in our lives?
