Abiding in our Marriage – The Love Triangle
Scripture discussed (Genesis 2 and 3, 2 Peter 1:3, Ephesians 5, Romans 8, John 14:23).
In this episode we discuss what a marriage of two believers that are each truly seeking to abide in God looks like. What does it look like in good and in conflict?
Intro: We are redefining marriage in so many aspects, what that framework looks like. These definitions bring a lot of heartache, a lot of strife. The institute of marriage, as defined by God, just can’t be redefined.
Genesis 2 we see a beautiful example of marriage. What abiding in marriage together can actually be. God provided EVERYTHING for Adam and Eve. The rain, the ground, the animals, the plants, there was no strife in the garden. Can you imagine in your own marriage, being content with where you are? Instead of living in the shame of past and present, instead of living in Genesis 3?
When abiding, the focus isn’t on the marriage. It is in each individual abiding and growing closer to God personally and sharing that journey with each other.
Visual Example:
Picture a triangle. In the bottom left corner is man, in the bottom right corner is woman, and the top of the triangle is God. In this image, man and woman could travel across the bottom line towards each other and meet closer together by their own means OR they could travel up towards God. In traveling up they will come close to God, taking on His characteristics, and if both grow towards Him being their home, they will also be close together as man and wife. Speakers discuss what this could look like in a marriage today.
